Apple negotiating return of 3G MacBook Pro prototype
Apple is in talks to arrange for the return of a MacBook Pro prototype with built-in wireless 3G functionality from a North Carolina resident who attempted to sell it on eBay.

If you're looking for an OS X app that hits many of OneNote's sweet spots, consider the US$39.99 Pear Note from Useful Fruit. Developer Chad Sellers tells TUAW, "Pear Note is often looked at as a more focused Mac alternative to OneNote."
If you record lectures as you take notes, Pear Note may be the app for you. It integrates your typed notes with audio, providing many of the same kinds of note-taking features as OneNote.
Timestamps for each keystroke allow you to associate what you typed with what was being said at the same time. Just click on the text notes to jump to the point in the recording when you typed it, and start listening again to that topic.
If you plan to use an iPad and a Mac, the upcoming Pear Note for iPad will coordinate with the Mac version via Dropbox. Do recognize, though, that Pear Note is for creating notes, not organizing them.
Sellers says, "I wanted people to be able to use whatever organizational tool they like with Pear Note. So, some organize their notes in folders on the filesystem, some throw them all in Documents and use search to find things, and some use Yojimbo, Together, or Evernote to organize them."
Now, if you're more of a visual scribbler than a listener, Auntie suggests the $29.99 Circus Ponies Notebook.
Notebook shines in its ability to add diagrams, flow charts and sketches to any page and provides full stylus integration. You can import PDF documents and add notes on top of that material.
Plus, you can "...'clip' selections from web pages and other apps straight into your Notebooks," according to Circus Ponies' marketing text. Notebooks stores the URL with the clip, allowing you to return to pages that you've taken notes on.
Perhaps your prefer an outline approach? Auntie's got a suggestion for you, too. How about the $39.99 OmniOutliner? It provides excellent outlining tools.
OmniOutliner lets you collect and organize information using a traditional outliner on steroids. With it, you can build multi-columned documents that include many spreadsheet enhancements, so your outlines can come to life. If you're a bullet-point style note taker, OmniOutliner probably provides all (if not more) the functionality you need for in-class organizing.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Launch in Australia Delayed Again as Apple Objects to Design
Nearly a month ago, Australia became the first market to see Apple win a tangible victory over Samsung in the patent dispute between the two companies, with Samsung agreeing to delay the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in that country and to provide Apple with samples of a version of the device specific for that country at least one week ahead of the launch.
The Sydney Morning Herald now reports that Samsung has again agreed to delay the launch of the device in Australia, pushing the debut out to at least September 30th. The agreement came after Samsung provided Apple with samples of the Australian version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 late last week in anticipation of launching the device at the end of this week. Apple unsurprisingly considered the Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 to still infringe upon its intellectual property rights and requested new and extended injunctions to prevent Samsung from selling the device until the dispute can be resolved.
A new formal hearing in Apple's case against Samsung has been scheduled for September 26th and 29th, with "top executives" and others involved in the design process for the iPad and Galaxy Tab potentially appearing either in person or via video link to testify.

Apple's counsel said that while the modified version had "some reduced functionality" it "will still infringe". They sought orders from the court re-affirming the previous block on sales of the US model and asked for a new order to prevent the sale of the Australian version at least until a hearing can take place at the end of September.For its part, Samsung has indicated that it is looking to invalidate Apple's iPad design patents and will also be filing claims against Apple for infringement by the iPad.

Stem Innovation's iZON Remote Room Monitor is Apple friendly, easy to set up
Stem Innovation, the same company that brought iOS device owners the TimeCommand alarm dock and accompanying Stem:Command software, now has a new product out that looks like a winner. The iZON Remote Room Monitor (US$129.95) is a Wi-Fi connected, app-based video camera that can be used to keep an eye on a child in another room or a house on the other side of the planet.
As with the TimeCommand, setup of the iZON appears to be drop-dead simple. The company recommends using an 802.11n Wi-Fi network, and the tiny cylindrical camera (which weighs only .74 oz) takes less than 10 minutes to set up. Compare that to the hours it took for me to set up a Foscam Wi-Fi camera -- I had to use Windows running under VMWare -- and the extra $40 or so for the iZON looks like a great investment.
In addition to connecting to your local Wi-Fi network, the iZON also connects to the Stem servers for video monitoring over EDGE, 3G and remote Wi-Fi networks for up to 5 minutes per session. It's possible to set up motion sensitivity with the camera so that you receive an alert through push notification whenever something within the field of view moves.
There's also an audio monitor built into the camera, and the same alerts can be enabled when an audio level is exceeded. The video stream is encrypted for your protection, but can be recorded in 30-second bursts to a free private YouTube account.
The iZON camera is available at Apple Stores and some Best Buy locations, or can be ordered directly from Stem Innovation. TUAW will have a full review of the iZON in the near future.
