Steve Jobs will introduce iCloud, Lion, iOS5 at WWDC Keynote June 6
It's official (for real, this time) -- Steve Jobs will introduce iCloud, "Apple's upcoming cloud services offering," iOS 5 and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion during the WWDC keynote on June 6. Note that iCloud is named specifically and referred to as "cloud services," suggesting that it's more than music.
There has been much speculation about iCloud as a music locker, streaming service and MobileMe successor. Also, developers and customers alike have been eager to see iOS 5 and we were recently led to believe that Mac OS X Lion is getting close to a releaseable state.
It's going to be an exciting keynote, and we'll have full coverage. See you on the 6th!
WWDC will feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers. Mac(R) developers will see and learn how to develop world-class Mac OS X Lion applications using its latest technologies and capabilities. Mobile developers will be able to explore the latest innovations and capabilities of iOS and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance and design of their apps. All developers can bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers.
For more details, visit the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 website at developer.apple.com/wwdc.
Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced iPad 2 which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.

Another Mac OS X 10.6.8 build seeded to developers
Sources have told us that another build -- 10K531 -- of Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is now available for download by developers.
The developer seed became available late yesterday, and focuses on AirPort, Networking, Graphics Drivers, the Mac App Store, QuickTime, and VPN. As usual, Apple has requested that developers file bug reports if any quirks are found.
There are no known issues with this seed of Mac OS X 10.6.8, which may point to a release of the updated operating system in the near future. As reported earlier, it is expected that 10.6.8 will include a way to block the MacDefender malware and its variants.

What Google and Mastercard's new mobile payment system could mean for iOS users
Last week saw a major new product announcement from Google: the new "Google Wallet" will allow people with compatible mobile phones to use them to pay for goods and services in shops with a simple wave of their hand. This follows a number of in/out/in/out/shake it all about rumors that this "NFC" stuff might be included in the next iPhone. So what is NFC and why should you care? Sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and I'll explain.

Your calls and questions help make the show the best it can be, otherwise I'm just talking to myself! To participate, you can use the browser-only Talkshoe client, the embedded Facebook app, or download the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the Talkshoe Web button on our profile page at 4 HI/7 PDT/10 pm EDT Sunday. Maps+ adds tracking and location-based alarms to Google Maps
Maps+, a new mapping app for the iPhone and iPad, has just been released. Developed by IZE, Maps+ uses Google Maps data, meaning you must have a data connection for it to work, but it adds a couple of interesting location-based features into a customizable interface that you can't get in the default iOS maps app.
GPS tracking has been added, meaning you can record your route, whether you're running, cycling, driving or walking. Sounds familiar, but this time it's opt-in. You can even import or export your recorded tracks to GPX for viewing on the desktop or in other apps.
Location-based alarms are also included, allowing you to set a reminder that's activated when you hit a certain location. That's handy if you're a bit forgetful and need more than just a timed alarm to jog your memory.
Maps+ also comes with most of the standard features found in Google Maps, including directions with route alternatives; standard, satellite, hybrid and even terrain maps from Google; and bookmarks and address-only search (no business search is included).
Maps+ is free to download, with a couple of features, such as pins, bookmarks and tracks, being limited by number. They can be unlocked via a US$2.99 in-app purchase. If the default Google Maps-based app is just a bit limited for you, then the free Maps+ is worth a look.
